03 · HOW TO PLAY

Playing this build

1Early preparation

With Quarterstaff, use Riposte while accurately facing the guard direction. Do not assume you can block all directions from the start.

2Upgrades and transition

Distant Starlight unlocks omnidirectional guarding during Riposte at 100 or more maximum MP. With Scale of the Astral Sea, a normal attack after a successful guard leads into Crystal Explosion.

3Combat loop

  1. Check both maximum MP of at least 100 and enough current MP to guard.
  2. Block the attack with Riposte.
  3. After a successful guard, use a normal attack for Crystal Explosion.

Boss fights

Block the boss's melee attack and immediately follow with a normal attack to trigger the explosion. The omnidirectional effect only lasts during Riposte, so do not stand exposed continuously.

Without the core items

If maximum MP is below 100, supplement it with Star Aquamarine and Water Bag. Until the requirement is met, guard facing the attack direction. If Crystal Explosion lacks damage, increase your highest elemental damage with items such as Magic Carrot.

Cautions and scope of verification

Conditions to watch

  • Distinguish the maximum MP requirement from insufficient current MP. Even with a cap of 100, your cycle breaks if you have no MP to spend.
  • Crystal Explosion after a successful guard requires a normal attack input. Repeating only special attacks misses the follow-up explosion opportunity.
  • Crystal Explosion deals chaos damage based on your highest elemental damage. Raising physical damage alone may not sufficiently strengthen Crystal Explosion.
